Guest Post at Chad R. Allen’s Place: “5 Ways to Take Your Writing to the Next Level”

September 17, 2013 by Gary Neal Hansen 2 Comments

Chad R Allen headerI am thrilled and honored to have a guest post today on Chad R. Allen’s blog!

Those of you who connect with me through Facebook (have I mentioned how much I’d love it if the rest of you would like my Facebook page?) will probably know that last January Chad R. Allen, editorial director of Baker Books, began coaching me through the process of writing a book proposal, right out there in public on his blog.

And if you’ve been checking in here lately, you know that I’ve been blogging on Christian community, especially the models taught and lived by St. Benedict and John Wesley.

And those of you who like to put seemingly random observations together will have deduced that the book I’m proposing is about historical movements with distinctive approaches to community life — and whose community life bubbled over into effective mission and service.

Once the dust had settled, Chad asked me to write a guest post about what I’d learned in the process. It starts like this

Writing a book proposal can be lonely and scary. You slave away in secret. You send it off. You wait. The rejection letter comes and you are no wiser about what would have helped.

Then came Chad’s book proposal coaching project.

Input from an industry insider before submitting it?  I had to apply.
