Advent starts Sunday!
And so does my brand new online class on lectio divina.
I suspect that, like me, you want this Advent to be a time of deepening your connection with God — instead of being swept into the hurly burly of shopping and office parties. As the prophet and the gospel remind us, we need to prepare the way of the Lord.
There’s no better way to do that than to use Scripture in your prayer life — as in the classic practice of lectio divina, or “divine reading.”
You may have read my book on the topic (I send a free ebook version of Love Your Bible: Finding Your Way to the Presence of God with a 12th Century Monk to new subscribers to my newsletter.) Now I’m starting a new online class for Advent to give you an added help in getting started with the practice.
But registration is only open through Monday.
Each week we’ll dive deep into one step of the practice — though it will always be in the context of a growing experience of the whole four-step process — reading, meditating, praying, and contemplating.
And each week we will apply those steps to one of the four great “songs” in Luke 1 and 2 — and dwelling with the words of Gabriel, Mary, Zechariah, and Simeon is a great thing in itself.
Every week will include
- video mini-lectures
- guided practice
- and discussion forums for mutual encouragement.
Click here for full info (both text and video) and to find out how to register.
(Sorry that I didn’t have new blog posts in my regular series this week. Between creating this class and writing a novel for NaNoWriMo some things are a tad behind.)
Please share this via social media using the buttons below, or email it to anyone you think might enjoy the class!
Blessings,
Gary
