I got word today that two-thirds of the presbyteries in the Presbyterian Church (USA) have approved the new translation of the Heidelberg Catechism!
If the next General Assembly gives final approval, it will replace the translation in my denomination’s Book of Confessions. Then, for the first time we will share the same version of this important and beloved text with the Reformed Church in America and the Christian Reformed Church in North America.
Happy 450th Birthday, Heidelberg Catechism!

first time our presbytery hasn’t split down the middle. things are looking up possibly because of your visit.

Thanks Myra — this is great to hear. I would love to see Heidelberg be a source of unity. If we all studied it (even the parts we don’t like very much) and lived with it a bit I think we would begin to speak the same language as we talk about our faith.
